Hi, can anyone give advice on the cheapest place in Dublin or surrounding areas to get jabs for travel to Thailand (Tetanus, Hep A, Dyptheria, Polio). Thanks in advance

When I went to Thailand last spring I got vaccinated by my GP and he ordered in the vaccines and I came back a few days later and he was alot cheaper than the TMB Tropical Medicine Bureau. I got vaccinated for Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis- (the whooping cough) in one vaccine called Boostrix and got a second vaccine called Hepatyrix which vaccinated me against Hepatitis A and Typhoid. I think I paid €110 for two GP consultations and the vaccines themselves so I was happy with that price.

I did not get vaccinated against Polio but I think I had that done as a child along with the other typical childhood vaccines. Another vaccine to consider is the Rabies Vaccine which whilst not on the typical vaccines list is a good idea to get, I myself did not get it done and subsequently got bitten in Thailand (by a cat!) whilst out trekking north of Chiang Mai and had to get the PEP (Post Exposure Prolaxis) Rabies Vaccine there over a 5 course vaccine.

There is supposed to be a high number of rabid dogs and cats in Thailand and us westerners in our shorts and flip flop sandals don't stand a change if they do go to bite you! But you have 24hrs to get the vaccine as was my case, I was 99% sure the animal that bit me was not rabid but still got the vaccine afterwards as I wasn't taking any chances as if a human catches Rabies it is guaranteed death with only 1 survivor in History, my travel insurance paid out for it so I wasn't going to risk it then!

Most of these vaccines are general vaccines and if you get them done for Thailand for some of them you will be good for life so if you ever go somewhere again you won't need to get them again as I am now vaccinated against Rabies for life. Getting the Hep B vaccine is a very important one if you are a lad and plan to screw around in Thailand  and it can be combined with the Hep A vaccine; Hep B is highly contagious and being vaccinated against it is a good sexual health thing. You can get the Hep B vaccine for free in the sexual health (GUM) clinic also afaik.

Just to come back to close of this thread with my findings - after many phone calls & quotes the GP was way cheaper than any of the clinics, just as Stinicker advised above. Also found the clinics to be quite pushy in their sales tactics, GP far more relaxed and i felt that I was getting genuine advice rather than sales pitch.
