Resigning from being a secondary school teacher

    Hey there,

    I need your help.

My partner qualified this year as a secondary school teacher and secured a permanent job. While it is permanent, it is also probational as it is his first year out. Due to personal circumstances the job isn't for him and he is looking at handing in his notice.

The standard notice for wholetime permanent teachers is 3 months (asti website) It doesn't however say what the notice period for a probationary teacher is? Is it one month like a temporary teacher? Your help would be greatly appreciated as I can't find any information online and I can't get through to the right people in the ASTI headoffice.

He should see out his probation year. This is essential, as he will be looking for employment again and it will not look good in his CV or in a Reference that he left his job before his probation period was up.

Have to agree with the above - it may prove difficult to get another teaching job after quitting in probation year. I advise sticking it out.
