Problems downloading on MAC

Noticed last few weeks, attempts at downloading from Hotfile / Filesonic on MAC Air just simply stops after 4-5kb. Same file and same URL using PC on same wireless at home no problems downloading. I can't figure out this one. Mac Air has enough space etc, and no problems browsing web. Tried alternating browsers Chrome / Mozilla / Safari still no difference.

    Anyone has any ideas?

Are you using an external download manager? For those free file hosts you must use the browsers own download manager. sometimes that 5kb file is a html file, so browse to it in your browser and see if any error message is displayed as to why they are refusing the download for you

nope no download manager... posted on apple website, apparently the updated MacOs blocks download of files that it potentially identifies as illegal sharing, hence problems with filesonic etc. I've no problems whatsoever on my PC using same wireless. Looks like its back to Windows for my next laptop!

Sounds unlikely to me. Are the files you trying to get actual mp3/avi files? Or are they rars? If they are rar files there's absolutely no way your computer can tell what might be in it with only 5kb downloaded.

Go to the Hotfile and Filesonic websites and make sure you're logged in. It could be a problem with the cookie not being set in your browser.

Are you clicking links on filesharing forums? Try copying the text of the links and pasting it into your browser's address bar and see where that brings you. What browser are you using btw?

Look in your system log files for possible causes. Use console app and view the time stamped entries around the time of the download. If the OS was REALLY blocking downloads, you would see evidence here.

Filehosts won't work with an external download manager, Jdownloader might work as its designed to trick those sites but more often than not it wont. Also I wouldn't think Apple would be stupid enough to build anti piracy features into the OS, and anyways Filesonic, Hotfile et al. arn't illegal sites and have many legitimate uses
