i came across a website which appeared to be an online stockbroking company. transaction expences seemed to be at a bare minimum compared to any of the companies base in dublin. has anyone used an online stockbroker and would you recommend one?

It might also be worth mentioning the company you are considering if your looking for opinions.

Cheapest Irish Company appears to be Fexco Stockbroking. TD Waterhouse is probably the cheapest online broker offering services in Ireland (they are based in the UK and their parent company is TD Ameritrade so they are huge).

Have used Fexco, ok charges and easy to deal with. Have also used TD Ameritrade in the past and no problems but when I tried to use TD Waterhouse they were a disaster with making lodgements, trading and cost were all good. Saying that other people may have opinions they might put up here for you.

Davys have a very good online trading system plus an iPhone app.

You must be joking. Their system maybe good ONLY for Irish stocks. For the rest it is useless. I had some other issues as well. Closed my account after two trades.

I'm sure there are better online brokers but Davys is not useless, I sold a US stock yesterday and it went through in a matter of minutes, I've also dealt in UK stocks and the trades went very smoothly.

I opened an account through sharewatch.com and have had no problems. Very good commission rates.
