So I'm thinking of switching over to Mint Debian Edition, obviously not happy with current setup as per my other thread.

I just wanted to see if you use it what you thoughts are, what was the general installation like, hardware support out of the box, has anyone tried install ATI drivers.

And maybe if someone could clear up, what exactly do the Mint crowed mean when they say "rough around the edges" as pert their website.? :p

Ubuntu 10.04 was my first venture into linux, currently have mint with KDE on top of it, with about 3 splash screens and also have to select a previous version from the grub screen at start up to get the usb keys and mouse to work. It's a mess TBH.

i use lmde xfce, no problems at all, went with xfce, as i dont like gnome 3 which crept into the testing repo

run full updates before installing ati driver as a newer kernel is added, after first run of update manager ,

my wireless didnt work out of the box, but was easy install by adding the testing repo, got the driver ..then removed the testing repo, or other wise youll have another gig of updates,

its very very good ! took a wee while to get used to xfce, but its fine when you do

running lmde at the minute. some of it frustrates me, as the mint repos are pretty slow and missing a lot, but if you add some extra debian repos it's not so bad.

not sure how much i'd recommend it, i keep toying with the idea of moving distros but never get around to it. came to lmde from a bastardised apotsid/debian accident and to that from oobuntooo

If you install and don't touch it then it is fine. The minute you try any updates then it can drive you mental. I closed my eyes yesterday and patched for the first time in months. I am now staring at a default Debian background :(
