Wonder how I go about updating it? I know there's an option in Settings to Update once I've a Samsung account. How do I go about Backuping my phone? etc...

First port of call is plenty of reading. There is a number of threads on s2 on boards itself, also check out xda.com. By the time your done with the reading major update called ice cream sandwich(ics) should be near ready.
