I think it's still mostly about Jesus rising from the dead. Obviously the shopping is a big part now too but sure they all got him bling even back then for rising from the grave.

Arthur's Day would be the better choice, no?

    Valentine's day ftw.

Do your essay about how it's becoming less and less about gettin it rode these days.

Yes it has. Same with St Patricks day, another religious holiday.

It turns out presents are far more appealing to the population than the prospect of sitting in large hall participating in a ceremony presided by a paedophile.

    Strangely enough.

Yes, it is - has been for many decades.

Any opportunity for retailers or companies to make crazy €€€€€ will have become commercialised and X-mas is the biggest cherry of them all.

The point of these essays is that you learn to think about things critically and put forward an argument, not go off what a dude on the internet told you.

It's hardly a ground-breaking proposition either is it?

Why not pick a religious holiday that's not so obvious... like Timkat, I enjoyed it much more when it was underground.

No, I still think most of us still observe Christmas for its original purpose, to celebrate the birth of Santa Claus.
