    Where are you buying from?
Proccessor is good, stock heatsink will be fine as long as you don't push it and keep an eye on the temps.

Motherboard, I'v never used ASROCK but reviews are good.

SSD is good, you can get the OCZ agility 3 for about €5 less

PSU,I'd recommend getting a good brand, its one thing you dont want to skimp on. A corsair 500w CX would do fine,go for the 750w TX if you plan to crossfire the 6870

Ram looks good, just make sure your board supports it.

6870 is a good choice, when I was running just the one I got good FPS with my old dual core phenom so the i5 will run nice with it.

The rest is personal choice really.

As for the gaming/using windows on three screens. You'd need to run eyefinity, you can choose resolution from within the game to set it to 1 screen.

Lol I was thinking: why it's so expencive for such spec... Then I so 3x monitors :)

    You planing eyefinity?

Single 6870 wount cut, you will need Cs to have good quality eyefinity.

It's a great card though. I have it in my old pc, which is connected to 42 inch telly :)))

He'll need eyefinity to use 3 monitors in Windows 7(which requires a mini display port to HDMI/VGA/DVI adapter that usally doesn't come with the card),the 6870 will be more than enough for that alone, just not gaming. He can resort to 1 screen for gaming.

    Ah sorry, my bad.

P.s I took same case for my biuld and it is briliant. Extra fans keep everything very cold inside.

White black and light blue lights on fans make it look really Impresive.

    Just to add:

Get a spare sata cable. Just in case. My mobo had only 2 sata cables and I had ssd, DVD rom, hdd. I had to steal one sata off my dell xps 420 to connect DVD rom. Just for the peace of mind get one extra ;)

Thanks for that tip about choosing the resolution. I'm buying from HWVS.

The Sapphire FLEX series of cards have the active adaptor bit built into one of the ports and they give you an adaptor to HDMI or DVI which means you can run 3 monitors without a displayport monitor. At least I hope I can!:D

I'm not too pushed really about gaming in eyefinity, I really just want the 3 monitors for productivity reasons. It's a pain in the arse alt-tabbing between different windows when you have several open.

Yeah, your thread was very informative. I really like the case and the extra fans, especially the 200mm? at the side.

    Thanks guys!

Ah not so bad, neither of my cards have it.
Best of luck with the build.

You could save a few euro by getting a non flex card + adapter.

You'd miss out on that cool blue line on the card though, but you can take the adapter to a new system with a card upgrade.

Yeah that might be a good idea for future upgrades. Sound!

    Total build cost: €1,282.75 + €30 shipping
    Intel Core i5-2500K Box, LGA1155 €195.88
    Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 550W €55.55
    Sapphire FLEX HD6870 1G GDDR5 PCI-E DL-DVI-I+SL-DVI-D / HDMI / DUAL MINI DP €178.75
Corsair Carbide Series 500R White, ATX, ohne Netzteil €101.99
    3 x ASUS VH242H €140.63
    Crucial M4 128GB SSD 6,4cm (2,5") €179.54
    8GB-Kit Corsair XMS3 DDR3-1333 CL9 €32.63
    MSI Z68A-G43 (G3), Intel Z68, ATX, DDR3 €90.98
    ASUS PCE-N10 €18.53
Revoltec Wired Gaming Mouse W102 €7.01

Ordered today! Just hope I get it before the new year. I'm off college for 2 weeks so plenty of time to tick it together. I made a few changes, upped the SSD to 128GB, had to change mobo as other one was out of stock, changed the RAM to the 1.5v version, I stuck with the flex card because I read of some screen tearing issues with active adaptors.

However the PC turns out it will blow my old PC out of the water anyway, it's about 5 years old and even back then it was a budget PC.

Thanks again guys, I'll keep ye updated with the build.

do you have another hard drive already to put into or are you going to run everything on the SSD?

i have a really old 130GB from my current ancient pc. i might use that for backups of important stuff and a 500GB 3.5 inch external that i might convert to internal and use for media..

the 128GB ssd is more than I'll ever need for day to day stuff.

the really old drive might be IDE though and so no good for yoyur shiny new SATA pc
you might have to strip out the 500gb from your external alright

There are a ton of IDE/SATA adapters available online though.

That's what i was thinking but I haven't opened the old PC up to look as I don't want it to get an inkling of it's imminent demise. It might go on strike!:D

EDIT: Nice one serephucus. Might pick one of those up.

EDIT 2: It's now in cologne!

OK, one of the packages seems to be in the country. The other four are about a day behind.

I know that the post office branches are closed Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday but does anyone know if An Post's parcel delivery/couriers are working early next week?

Well one of my monitors turned up. Here's hoping the rest turns up tomorrow.

Bit weird that one monitor turned up, I would have expected the three to turn up together and maybe get the case on its own or something.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 816 ✭✭✭Opinicus

Just got a text that the other four packages turned up. :D

Now to get this pesky LAN & Wireless exam out of the way. I have to work tonight 'til 12 but I predict a late night full of computer building goodness!

Fecking An Post had three days off last week, plus another bank holiday yesterday. Don't care now that it's here though. I better not have to RMA anything or I will actually go postal. :D

All in good time, it's strange clicking on an icon and not going to make a cup of tea/write a book while the application is loading.:D If it goes any faster my head may explode. SSDs FTW.

Also being able to watch stuff in 1080p is brilliant. I received one of my monitors last week on it's own. For the laugh I hooked it up to my old PC and tried to watch something in HD, it was stuttering and spitting.:o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,929 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

well gratz bud. one more happy camper! :D

it will take a while to get use to SSD awesomeness! i will have to buy one just for games! :D

So it turns out that the old 160 GB drive from my old PC and an old external 500GB that I had lying around were both SATA 2. Happy days! An extra 660GB storage for free.
