Wow, absolutely everything beglonging to the aiport is up for sale. Even the holding point signs!

Does anyone care to speculate what this means for Weston? I know that the flight schools are separate companies so will they still be able to operate?

Maybe it will revert back to a flying club again...

You thinking that is a bad sign for the future of Weston?

Can it survive as a commercial entity?

I assume the sale is being organised by the liquidator to reclaim debts.

That doesn't make any sense? As far as I know the Buccaneer belongs (belonged) to Christy Keane and the Beech 18 wasn't owned by Weston. iI suppose both are now which is surprising to me. As for the rest none of it really impacts on the continued use of Weston as a licenced airfield, except the fire tenders. One of which would be needed. The rest can be done without and were for most of the history of Weston. The tower equipment certainly won't be needed.

As for the airport signs, well who exactly is going to buy them?

Presumably all this means the rest of the airfield is up for sale or is about to be sold with the buyer not needing all the extras. Can't see it closing as a airfield anytime soon.

Was there any attempt to sell Weston as a going concern, with the airfield and equipment as one lot? It doesn't make much sense to sell off the equipment piecemeal as most of it is specialist, and removing it reduces the airfield's value.

Haven't been there in years but it looks way too big for a club to take on, and a bit of a waste.

Weston is for sale through KPMG but it does seem odd to sell off the various items separately. Ok the aircraft make sense. Now to be fair none of the items for sale are needed in order for Weston to maintain it's status as a licensed airfield, except perhaps the fire tenders. But you don't need a full on fire tender. Most licensed fields use old Fire Brigade appliances.

    I'm sure there's a story behind this.

When a liquidator takes posession of a site/building all items on those areas come under his control, and are effecticly his property until you the owner can prove otherwise. In construction you would see diggers and cranes as well as site offices on these areas for months after a company has gone belly up. Almost all these items in most cases are generally on hire. Don't know if the same would apply in the case of Weston, I suppose if the Buccaneer is not claimed the liquidator is quite entitled to sell it.

Looking up G-INFO, in fact the Beech 18 is listed as being owned by Weston Airport. So that makes sense. The Buccaneer must be in the same situation.

The aerodrome licence and air navigation service licence are listed for sale too though

How come the Catalina isn't included? Isn't this under the same ownership as the Bucc?

A goverment department is looking into this as it may be cheaper for them to buy these items for 2 new goverment airports yet to be officially opened in 2012.

New airports in 2012! I thought the government would be seeking to close some regional airports in 2012.

Why on earth would the government buy Weston?

Presume they are referring to Inishbofin and Cleggan airstrips built in 2008, which have remained closed since construction. I read a tender was to be advertised to operate both airstrips soon.
