I have one of these http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/schneider3_music_center_system_ts140.html. I bought two mono 3.5 adapters to connect my laptop to the Mic L R inputs via a stereo phono cable. However they don't make a good connection and you have to balance them half in half out to get sound.

Anyone know if i' m using the wrong jacks or are the sockets just damaged???

Please help  cant figure it out

To begin with it's not a good idea to connect a headphone output to a Mic input. The levels and impedance simply will not match and will give lots of distorted sound. Is there a line input anywhere on the stereo ?

Given the age of the 3 in 1 it might have a 5 Pin DIN style socket at the rear. If so you'll need something like this.

Thanks for the tip Ken but there is no line in unfortunately. The sound quality is pretty good(alot better than the laptops speakers) once the connection is made. the jacks are just very loose and fall out or get damaged if you hit of the cable.

It's difficult to see the Mic connectors on the pictures, can you take a photo and post it here ? Also can you snap the connectors you're using too ? One thing that springs to mind here is that a lot of Tape Decks and 3-in-1s - where 2 Mic Sockets are used - use on or other of the Sockets as a Mono input. It's usually marked something like Right Mic - Left Mic (Mono).

This is all I've got to work with. the mic inputs work when the selector is on tape. Phono is just for the record player.
