Roasted Beans - Shelf Life

What is the general recommendation with regards to use of freshly roasted beans?

The reason I ask is that I use about a 250g bag of beans in a fortnight and I'm looking at ordering from HasBean.

The single bags usually cost from £4 up. Taking a £4.50 bag as a sample, it'd cost £6.78 per bag including delivery.

The filter starter pack costs £25.61 including delivery - or £5.12 per bag.

Obviously the starter pack works out cheaper. However, for me, the last of the five bags wouldn't be opened for a couple of months. For this reason, I'm considering a 12 month subscription which costs £71 including delivery - or £5.92 per bag.

    What are your thoughts?

Beans start loosing their freshness as soon as they are roasted.

In general you would want to be using them in 4 weeks but up to 3 months is possible, but they loose their aroma and flavour as time goes on.

You'd be mad to get the starter pack based on that consumption. You should get the mthly sub, and consider a second mthly sub from another roaster (Squaremile, James Gourmet or Bailies)

Thanks for the response. I've gone ahead and ordered the 12 month subscription.

The 52 weekly coffee subscription seems really good value - working out at £4.16 per bag. However, I wouldn't use that amount to the monthly one should suit me fine.

Does anyone know whether HasBean send out the monthly subscription coffee on a weekly or monthly basis, i.e. should I expect my first bag before Christmas?
