Can I be the first to say. DO NOT WEAR A BLACK SHIRT. You might think you look cool. But very few people can carry of a black shirt. If I were you. I'd wear a crisp white shirt and skiny black tie.

OP, don't wear that shirt. Please. It won't work with a black suit, at all.

For a smart casual work do, I'd always err on the side of formal rather than casual.

I saw this shirt today and I thought it looked good, and it'd look great with a black suit, I think. It's lighter in real life than it looks in the pic.

OP, as has already been said, dont think Id go for that shirt with a black suit. Id also avoid any black/white shirt and tie combo if its a large xmas party night with other groups there as, speaking from experience, if you remove your jacket there is a high chance you'll look similiar to the waiting staff. Not much fun having people try to give you orders as you navigate your way to the bathroom

Thanks, I just needed to hear it from someone real, other than the doubts in my mind! :o

I don't think I could pull off that shirt being only 20.....not a big fan of it either!

What I might do is pick up a pair of charcoal pants and layer a shirt with a jumper!

I'm going off the idea of wearing my suit the more I think about it! It's only a small party of about 120 and the dress code is basically just no jeans! :)

How about you wear the suit, and a plain white v nect t-shirt underneath. What type of cut is the suit?

Rodger, the 80's are over dude!!

Black suit needs a plain white shirt and red tie (red pocket square if possible).

Also that shirt in the pic is bloody horrible

Seen this on expose last night with a black suit looked really nice and it's quite affordable if you are still thinking about sticking with your suit :)

i wore a grey check shirt with a black tie and a black suit recently, everyone said it looked the business. dark red or purple will work.

dont wear a black shirt with black trousers as said....did it once, everyone thought i was a bouncer. stood beside the front door and a girl gave me her ID....

I had my christmas party last weekend, I work navy trousers, white shirt, navy waist coat and a navy tie with black shoes. Sounds very formal but with the shirt sleeves rolled up and the top button of the shirt open and the ties slightly loose everyone told me it looked great, very smart/casual.... So something like that would be my reccomendation...

PS..... being 20 does not mean that you can not pull off a suit

OP this is really the only decent bit of advice here.

Ye I think this is what I'm leaning towards! I don't want the plain shirt and tie look that everyone else will have! I'll have a look for a nice shirt that would fit the bill!

Why does everyone keep saying this.....I worked in a bar long enough to never want to wear a black shirt again!! :D

Very....navy! I want something that will compliment what I already own, don't want to be buying a whole outfit with christmas so close!

PS. I know I pull off a suit, I was referring to that shirt.... :p I was told I looked 26 the other evening...

Deffo a crisp white shirt, a waistcoat can look really cool too.

Look, it's not complicated, if you've got the body then what the hell are you worried about? Keep away from the gold medallion though.
