    Hello all,

I'm looking for a decent sound system for a Honda Civic. Also wondering is a subwoofer needed? Will be playing mostly heavy metal, but also trad music, and your usual crap, and thus want to be able to hear the music clearly.

Need something I can either plug a 3mm cable (for audio input), or a USB stick/memory card that I can play music off. Have looked into the Lidl/Aldi Silvercrest thing, but have been told it's not the greatest for music.

Will be most likely putting in speakers, but don't want to spend an arm an a leg for it. If anyone know prices/ places that do this? Excluding Halfords, who seem to f**ks things up going by the comments I've read here. Budget around the €200 mark, but that can stretch. I'm not looking for the world to hear what I'm playing, just that I can hear the guitar riffs.

Just to give you an idea, I got a budget system for my car a few years back:

Sony cd with iPod control and pre outs for amp €149
Fli sub and amp all in 1 €130
Speakers in car were pioneer and better than most stuff available so left them in

That's €180 in total for decent enough sound.

Pretty much echoing what Colm's said, if you want to do it on a budget, get a good head unit (Pioneer, Alpine) that has a 4x50 watt amp in there and a sub out. Ideally, the head unit should also have a crossver or high pass filter built in. Get some decent speakers for the door, and a separate powered sub. You'll have a good, punchy loud system without breaking the bank.

Some of the more modern Pioneer systems have Direct Subwoofer Drive which allows you to use both rear channels of the head unit's amp to drive a sub on it's own without having to buy a powered sub.

    €149 + €130 = €180

Am I missing something? :pac:

Plus other bits like the rca cables, wiring, , switches, connectors, coffee etc... another 20 quid

So budget about 240 for something like that :)
