Where are box office payment details stored? Sky viewing card or internal box memory?

our son racked up about €30 in box office - x men, horrible bosses etc. over the weekend without telling us... (box was plugged out of phone line like normal but he managed to still order them and watch them)

so we are now dreading plugging it in again to the phone line as we sometimes do to buy the very odd film.

Sky keep the details and they are paired to the card. Why not ring Sky and set up a password on your account so he can't order anything without knowing it.
You can also restrict the spending allowed through the box office service in parental controls on the box, change your pin number also as it sounds like he knows this also.
There's €30 pocket money your son has lost out on too;)

Yeah, i reckon he spotted from the net that the last 4 digits of the viewing card is the password as default. Will ring and change this.

Don't forget to put a password on your account in case he rings Sky and tries to pretend to be you.Has happened before.

never thought of that... will do.

He told us he didnt ring sky, but used the engaged line method? - hence why i was wondering if details are stored on card or box before going off down phone line to sky the next time i plug in the line.

    either way, im not impressed!

    Thanks for the info.

The info is stored on box AND card...

So either getting a connection eventually will get you billed.

PM'ed the op on that-couldn't discuss how his son did it on this thread due to the rules of the forum.;)

There is a certain amount of credit on the card for Box Office and you can use this up without the box actually dialling Sky so if the box thinks it's plugged in to a phone line, you can use the credit on the card. Once the credit runs out (I was told it's €50), you need to have it dial Sky to make sure you are billed for the usage and the card is reset so it can be used again.

    Correct.

If you max out the spending limit then you need to ensure your phone line is left plugged in for 3 months before Sky will allow you to purchase box office items again. They want to know that your box can successfully make callbacks and upload the purchase details. Callback schedule differs across the boxes and isn't known to the user, so you need your line in 24x7.

Note that charging only occurs once you start viewing the event. So there's no charge if you simply record and don't view the item.
