Neat pedals.

Oftentimes, I'm much too sensible to splurge on 'novelty' pedals, you know, the ones you don't really need. Despite how neat I think the Electro Harmonix Iron Lung is, I know that the money could be put to better use with a Compressor and a new Reverb pedal.

However, I'm currently GAS-ing pretty hard for that Ravish Sitar pedal. Now, I'm painfully aware that the world doesn't need to hear my fumbling attempts at some quasi-Shankar ramblings, but my God, I think this pedal sounds pretty.

How about you, what would qualify as yer favourite pedal?

I'd prefer a nice Coral Sitar like Steve Howe but unfortunately I'm not Steve Howe.

Looks like an awesome pedal. I love the pedal industry - so much potential for weird and wonderful creations.

My TC Electronic pedals arrived in Ireland last week but I have to wait til 21st to try them!

I dunno... Novelty pedals might not represent the best value because of their limited use, but they pack a pretty mean punch when you do use them, and keep your sound interesting. The problem is, if you only have the one "novelty" sound you would either end up not using it, or using it too much.

I actually have the big brother to the iron lung (voicebox) and a few other novelty pedals to boot which are great to keep the sound interesting. I'm torn between trying to keep building an exotic collection of pedals so that I can place them on my pedalboard and mix with other effects or whether I should get myself a MIDI system for my guitar for my "novelty" sounds and keep my "normal" effects separate. In terms of value for novelty, MIDI seems about the only route to take, but mixing different effects is where all the fun is. I fear whatever rig I'm going to have by the time I call it finished... Some horrible Frankenstein pedalboard of good pedals, woeful pedals and MIDI noises.

Anyway, the point being - the sounds that you don't really need are the ones you get most excited by using and hearing and are great to mix things up a bit. However, all that said, one of my most important pedals is a cheap line selector which is at the very front to bypass all the rest of my pedals.

Right now my fave "novelty" pedal is the Earthquaker Devices Bit Commander.

Only use it in two songs, but it's amazing in both.
