Adopt an Atheist

    http://www.catholicleague.org/adopt-an-atheist-campaign-begins/
Today we are launching our “Adopt An Atheist” campaign, the predicate of which is, “We want atheists to realize that there may be Christians in their community, even if those Christians don’t even know they are Christian.” Here’s what our campaign entails. We are asking everyone to contact the American Atheist affiliate in his area [click here], letting them know of your interest in “adopting” one of them. All it takes is an e-mail. Let them know of your sincere interest in working with them to uncover their inner self. They may be resistant at first, but eventually they may come to understand that they were Christian all along.
If we hurry, these closeted Christians can celebrate Christmas like the rest of us. As an added bonus, they will no longer be looked upon as people who “believe in nothing, stand for nothing and are good for nothing.”
So... atheists are Christians who don't know they're Christians and just need help to bring it out. I can't decide if it's arrogant, naive, or patronising.

Anyway, my mother's been trying this 'adopt an atheist' lark with me for the last 10 years and, if anything, I've only been getting more atheist.

I give it a week before the Christian throws his hands up and says that it is because the devil is in side the atheist. Nothing to do with the nonsense of their religion, of course :P

I would love for them to do something like this in Ireland, we would wreck their heads.

I say we start an "adopt a heterosexual", there could be straight people who were really just gay all along.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

I don't see this being as successful as "Adopt a Vegetarian"

    Why choose?

looked upon as people who “believe in nothing, stand for nothing and are good for nothing.”
I would like to respond to this particular bit with a heartfelt "f*ck you" to the Catholic League.

What a bunch of egotistical, self righteous idiots.

Soooooo... If I get adopted by one of these loopers, does that mean more Xmas presses for me?

Sadly ye athesits do not have, in the most part, the same cuddlability as say a baby seal - I don't really see this campaign having much public traction. :)

Ugh, how patronising - like hearing religious jibber jabber even more frequently than I do now wouldn't just put me off further...not to mention there are actually people who are adopted under fairly serious circumstances out there - the whole tongue in cheek vibe for the sake of flogging their religion a bit more isn't very appropriate.

Typically ill thought out, really.

I'll have you know I'm cuddly enough to make a baby seal look like a 70 year old crack whore, thank you very much.

I suppose if atheists were to try adopting catholics, it would just be religious discrimination or something

If it was "Sponsor an Atheist" I'd be up for it.

Is the Catholic League the Ryanair of the god-people world or something, and ADMIN is Michael O'Leary? Anything to cause a rabble and get more people talking about their website. Next they'll be making up wacky claims like seeing someone turn fish into wine, or someone going into a cave and then not being there the next day, or summit.

Any chance of a free meals or gifts for this gab? I could easily convert for a while and then lose my faith again after [latex]\chi mas[/latex].:D

You weren't rolling your eyes at the yanks when you posted that First Church of Atheism link going "AHA!". Pretty much the opposite, in fact. Was it because the word "church" was involved?

Zoo remarks would work better if you weren't the one flinging poo around.

Instead of adoption, why not try praying instead?

If nothing else, it'll keep the catholic league off the streets.

Alright, they can adopt me if they want.
They'll send me back in a week.

I hope it doesn't clash with "Bang a Believer" day or a lot of those adoptions could turn seriously awkward...

It turns out most baby seals don't believe in god, so they count!

Is this going to be like one of those "adopt-a-cheetah" schemes? If 100 people adopt me at 50c a day, I could live with that ...

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

I thought this thread was going to be about cyborg atheists :(

If you can read this, you're too close!
