Moving from 3GS to 4S by cutting sim?

    Hello wise people of boards,

I currently have a 3GS, but have ordered a 4S from apple for myself. It won't arrive for another 2 weeks.
I am on a sim only plan with Meteor at the mo, and went in to one of their shops to ask about getting a micro sim for when the phone does arrive, and was told by the chap that they could just cut my current sim.
Am I right in thinking this is better than getting a whole new sim, in that I will still have all my contacts, texts etc?
Also, is there anything I need to do to prepare for the switch if I do it this way? Or is it just a case of going in, getting it cut, popping it in the new phone, and then connecting it to itunes and everything remains as it was?

    Anyone done it this way?

    Thanks a mill.
    F

Your texts are not stored on the SIM.
    Your contacts probably aren't either.

    Procedure is:
    - Replace (or chop) your SIM
    - Backup your old 3GS in iTunes
    - Set up your new 4S in iTunes
    - Restore your 4S from the 3GS backup in iTunes

Your contacts, texts, apps etc will all transfer across to the 4S. Job done.

I find that backing up to icloud restores the phone better/more than restoring it with itunes - bookmarks, wallpapers and other settings.
So back up with itunes (just in case), then set backup to icloud and manually back up using the phone.
When you start up the new phone enter your apple id and restore it from icloud.
You still have the itunes restore for music etc.
