Shipping a bike (International)

    Hi there,
I have come home from 15 months away in Canada. I had to leave my bike in Vancouver with a pal to sell it for me. I am now thinking about getting my pal to ship it for me.
I had planned to sell it, but time of year and the fact that it is in perfect condition (it would be very hard to find one so clean - 4000kms) I'm thinking of maybe shipping it home.

Its only a wee Honda Cub 70.

I had a quick look online before I came back and saw a quote for CAD2000.

    Anyone got any tips?

    Thanks

Yes, stick in on Canadian eBay and cut your losses. Did you use it to bring you and your new bride away from your wedding? Did anyone famous ever own it? Its only a motorbike - so you'll lose a few bob but the cost of shipping and re-registering it will more than outweigh the cost of replacing it here.

    Have you tried shiply.com?

Fine little bike alright, but you'd be mad to ship......cost you more than its worth.....just buy another one here....

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

VRT for a Cub 70 will be max of €140 and it will be free for the OP once they weren't a student in Canada.

But the cost of shipping will kill the deal

may not be any use to you but I was looking for details of car transport companies in the states on here before and a company called Dependable Auto Shippers came up (google them) they do motorcycles and may go from Canada

let us know how you get on in any event......I would be curious to know rough costs myself........I'm thinking of getting something imported at some stage.

The problem is that it's got hazardous materials inside so it has to be a vehicle shipper or a specialized hazardous material shipper.

You could try and drain all the fluids but shipping companies still may not except it, I know a someone who shipped a lawn mower back years ago and they had to get it brand new with no fluids to ship it back. Another person had to cut the regulator off a barbecue for shipping.

I'm not optimistic, but we'll see.
