A quick one, temp senders on HW cylinder

    Just a quick query folks.

SS twin coil HW cylinder, top coil for CH, bottom for solar. No problems with either. There are four receptacles for stats on the cylinder. Top one, and second from bottom have senders which go to the controller, and the second from the top (about half way up the cylinder) is a variable stat (which I've set to 60 degrees) which controls a motorised valve on the central heating coil. I've done a DIY job on this, paralleling it with a stat on the CH feed, so that when the heating is off, the valve will open, and prevent any heat siphoning through the CH coil to the rads on the floor above (the cylinder is on the middle of three floors), as this was a problem I was having since the system was installed about two years ago.

Basically, I can heat the whole cylinder with solar in the summer and all is well, but while I've no shortage of water, the central heating coil doesn't heat right to the bottom. If I move that variable stat to the next receptacle down, which is one quarter from the bottom, (I can move the solar sender to the bottom to make room), will this keep the CH coil in longer, thus heating more water, or will I run the risk of overheating the water at the top of the cylinder?

I can live with it as is, just don't want to be caught for hot water at some stage-we use the plumbed shower now in preference to the two electric ones, primarily because it's far better!

    Thanks in advance.

The central heating coil is only going to heat from the bottom of the coil to the top of the cylinder , which im guessing is probably not even the top half of tre cylinder , so lowering the stat to the bottom of the cylinder is just as good as leaving it on the hotpress floor

    :D

Thanks for that, sullzz, I suspected as much. It's not an issue anyway. What about the bottom sensor for the solar though-should I move that to the bottom instead of where it is now-about a quarter of the way up?
