Hi,my dad bought an 08 nissan tida deisel with 63000 km about 12 mts ago.Recently the turbo went on it,with the guarantee up he went to a local mechanic who put in a second hand turbo for 1300 euro.Should he get rid of the car now or hold on to it?A year ago he paid 10000 plus his own car for this nissan. The mechanic said to keep it and drive it off on long drives every now and again to use the turbo(?)Is it too risky to keep it in case it goes again?Maby its better to cut your losses and trade it in any advice or has this happened to anyone else?

Did the mechanic diagnose why the turbo failed, if he did'nt the same might happen again.

1300e for a second hand turbo are you mad.secondly know one puts in second hand turbos.recondition yes but second hand not a chance would I do that and stand over it.i work on bmws day in day out and they suffer very bad turbo problems. I can get a recon turbo and fit it and I could charge the customer 600e and that's me paying 350e for the turbo and this is BMW we are talking about.so my advice is if some one put a second hand turbo into that car and didn't find out why the turbo went.id be selling it as quick as possible tbh.as ul prob run into more trouble

1300 for a second hand turbo....thats beyond words! Diesels need a long drive every so often alright, but its nothing to do with the turbo.

    I'll be getting a re-con turbo after the new year,and it's only costing between €300 and €400..

€1300 is really very expensive..Even if it is new.

By the sounds of it I'd be getting a new mechanic too.
