    Hi,
Nearly all smart phones say they support HTML. But what about HTML 5?
    Anyone know?
    Cheers.

That's a very broad question and would be browser dependent as opposed to device dependent.

What HTML5 functionality are you talking about?

I think it varies depending on the phone as to how much support each browser provides.

The amount of support is kind of chicken and egg I suppose/guess.. nobody will develop a website with html5 that no phones support, and until someone pushes the design of websites, phones won't increase the amount of support.

How much html5 that phones could possibly support, I'm not sure; I don't know where the boundaries are etc.

To give perspective, Chrome gets about 300 out of 400 or something like that on a html5 test and I think 2.3 stock browser gets 160..
But, that's kind of irrelevant because websites are developed to meet the general browser capabilities of the masses..

As far as I know, Opera mini supports HTML5; aswell as Firefox mobile. They don't support fancy stuff like CSS3 because of the limited graphics capabilities, but they certainly understand the new elements like <section>, <footer> etc.

If you're up for a bit of fun try http://html5test.com. It probes your browser for specific HTML5 features. My Android (HTC Sensation XL stock browser) wasn't identified properly, so those results are null.

While not Android, HTML5 on other mobile platforms is probably worth a mention too. The stock browser on my Anna running Nokia C7 gave 101/475 and Opera Mobile 11.5 on that C7 gave even worse results (42/62, was identified as undefined.)

Usual HTML5 caveats apply - not all features will be implemented, not all features may make it into the final draft, info given on above website not accurate etc.

It finally recognises my browser, so 182/475 + 1 bonus point for my Sensation XL running Gingerbread.

Also checked it on my Nokia C7 with Belle, 157/475 + 7 bonus points.
