00 nissan almera 1.5 cutting out, sluggish at times

I purchased a second hand nissan almera privately a few months back.

The guy i bought it off told me that the timing chain was replaced at 80k miles ( its also wrote in tippex on the engine). There is now 96k on it.

The problem is the car keeps cutting out when i come to a stop or if i coast with the clutch down for more then a couple of seconds. It also gets a bit sluggish if i go to take off fast or if i drop a gear to overtake someone.

It seems to be a common problem with this model.
I have read an old thread on here about the same issue and people were pointing to the timing chain. But as i said the guy told me that the timing chain was replaced.

So im wondering can anyone else think of what it might be. Some people have told me it might be an air intake/flow problem. Or do you think it might be something else? Or could it be that the guy lied to me about replacing the timing chain.
    I would appreciate any suggestions.
    Cheers

Does the engine management light come on when your turn on the ignition and then go off when you start the engine?

I have same type of car,it's the device that's regulates the fuel from the fuel to the engine. It's near the driver side wiper. Could be dirty petrol from before or just wore out. You may need a new part or a goos second hand part.
