    Very quick question.

Waiting in FastFit Tyres to get wheel tracking done. They've said its €70 for four wheel alignment.

Is it a fair price or am I getting ripped off?

    Kinda expensive

well i paid 40 for my tracking to be fixed last may. that was in drogheda. however i dont know if it was a 4 wheel alignment. what was happening was my steering wheel when straight was making my wheels turn to the left....but as the steering wheel only controls the direction of the front two then maybe thats why it was a lot cheaper as the back didn't need to be done.

I'm not sure if that includes wheel balancing, which has already been done... Any ideas as I'm not sure if that makes sense.

It can vary, some places are 40 euro, most places with laser alignment would be between 50-60. Some main dealers can charge well over 100.

Thanks guys. I'll probably run with 70e but no harm asking if they'll knock a little off.

It depends on what they are doing for €70, if its just front and rear toe, then its expensive, if however they are reading and/or adjusting 4 wheel toe, camber, caster etc then its cheap.

Is it the s2k? If so then its the latter that shoul be done IMO as just front and rear toe is only half the job.

    Yup its the S2k!

I managed to talk them down to €50 and asked since - its four wheel toe, camber and caster :-)

Here's hoping its a good job!

€70  That's disgraceful OP. I'd be telling him you will go somewhere else, the last time I got it done was a month ago and it cost me €30 and that included balancing.

    He's clearly ripping you off.

You simply didn't have balancing, and 4 wheel toe, camber, castor etc done for €30....The decent infa red camera 4 wheel aligners(laser is old hat now) cost 10-15k plus as opposed to the basic laser gauges which cost about 1k now

Ireland, in general, is very cheap for alignment. In the UK companies with the proper equipment(and knowalage, more importantly) charge £100 plus.

    Hi OP
I got the 4 wheels tracked on my car 2 weeks ago in Fast Fit Waterford and it was €50. It was all over the place so needed doing back and front was out. Did a great job too. Said front only tracked was 30.
    Thanks
    Gav

Yup I'm very happy with the job they did, car seemed a bit tighter just driving off so I'm guessing they did a good job :)

FastFit in Coolock btw, good service but could do with a few more radiators in the waiting room :D

Which one in Coolock if you don't mind me asking? Brought my Old car there (Clarehall) recently before I got rid of it looking to get the alignment done and the guy tried to insist that I needed a whole new front suspension setup (~€800 after he totted up "everything" it needed) on the front before he'd touch it.

Suffice to say I politely declined and left.

Laser alignment does NOT nessessarily mean 4 wheel alignment

lasers can be used in both front and 4 wheel alignment but you simply will not get 4 wheel alignment done for 35e unless you're getting other pricey work done too or you know the people.

€50 for 4 wheel is a fair price imo - €70 is justified for some cars.
i.e. bmws can be nightmares to do if bolts are seized or its never been adjusted before

Sorry to bump this but just reading the above about caster/camber/laser/infra red etc, I went to a crowd today about getting my transit wheels tracked as there is a bit more wear on the inside than the outside of both front wheels. They said they don't have laser or infra read that it would be manual/optical tracking and that there's no camber adjustment necessary for the Transit? They said they will check the suspension first of all for free and then if the tracking is to be done it will be €50. How does this sound?
