Cover letter as email, or as attached document?

    Hi, just a quick question.

Is the cover letter usually part of the email that you send the employer (Cover letter as email + CV attached) or is it a separately attached word doc/pdf? (short introduction email + 2 attached docs - Cover letter, CV)

    Thanks.

I would write my cover letter as email with CV attached :)

Cover letter on the email is perfect

CV as an attachment. I would save it as an .rtf file as we had some issues opening some documents when I was checking job applications. Microsoft Word is grand too. Or pdf

Lotus was one and some sort of Neoffice doc was another we had issues with. The Neoffice one wasn't a .doc, it was some other file. Messy and unneccesary

    Both.

    Depending on the Job/Company.

In addition I sometimes combine them into one PDF, to ensure that my beautifully crafted personalized cover letter makes it to the hiring manager, rather than the oval filing cabinet in the corner.
