Where would one go for such a thing, just the family GP? Things such as getting a prostate examination, etc?

Your G.P. can do most checkups required. If you want to shell out quite a few quid, you can get a fairly comprehensive check up in one of the private hospitals/clinics.

Prostate exam: G.P. can do this - First port of call is a simple blood test, similar to a cholestrol blood test. Normally men under 50 aren't screened for PCa, unless they have suspicious symptoms, or have a close blood relative who has/had PCa. If you're concerned about PCa, or any other form of Cancer, you can speak, in confidence, to a Cancer Nurse on the Irish Cancer Society Freefone number 1800-200-700 (Mon to Fri only)
