Anyone know how to get RAW files off a Sony camera?

I just got a new sony nex-c3 as a small walk about camera. It's my first time using any sony cameras. Trouble is I can't get any of the RAW files off of it, just the jpegs.

Using mac osx, I tried to get them off the camera with adobe bridge, iphoto, image transfer and auto transfer. They can't even see that there's RAW files on it, they can only see jpegs. My camera raw is completely up to date.

Same thing in windows 7 too, I can open the camera in windows explorer but I can only see the jpegs.

Does anybody have any ideas what I can do?

might sound like a bit of an obvious/silly question ...but are you shooting in RAW and Jpg or is there and chance you are shooting Jpg only ?

    No chance :P

When I'm shooting RAW+JPEG I can just get the jpegs off the camera, but when I shoot RAW only nothing shows up as being on the camera.

have you tried using a different card reader ?

(I have an issue with my eye-fi card ...it will only be read if I connect the to the computer with the eye-fi card reader ...none of my other card readers will do - I have about 5 different brands)

I don't have an SD card reader. I was connecting the camera to my mac directly. I tried it on my brother's computer which has a built in SD card reader, and the RAW files show up in the browser. Now I just have to work out how to get them to show up on my computer :/

Check for a free download of Sony RAW files decoder. It appears that your computer programs have not got the latest RAW file decoder

Like I said John, I've already got the latest version of camera RAW installed, that was the first thing I did when I got the camera. Thanks anyway :)

Can you make the camera a mass storage device in its settings? Then use finder to browse.

Failing that open a terminal and cd to the drive, should be in /volumes and use the ls -la command.

Unfortunately I can't set it to show up as an external drive in-camera, it would grand if I could, that would sort it.

I couldn't get it in the terminal. What I mean is that it's not in /volumes. All that's in there is my mac partition, bootcamp partition and dvd drive. :/

You'll have to invest in a cheap card reader so.

    Looks like it!

Thanks for the help anyway, lads.

I have a Sony A77 (and have been using various Sony DSLRs for years), and a Mac, and I shoot only in RAW, and have never had any problem getting my files into iPhoto or Aperture. However, I do use a card reader (the built in one on my Mac Book Pro), so that does sound like your best bet.

Were you using the USB cable that came with your camera, or a different one? I've heard that a recent firmware update for the A77 didn't work for some people who used third party USB cables (although it worked for me), so maybe it's something to do with the cable?

It was the usb cable that came with the camera, so that wasn't the problem.

I just bought this, which will slot into my macbook pro express card slot. So that should be problem solved. I'd still prefer to be able to just connect the camera directly, like I can with all my Nikons, but what can ya do.
