Ever wondered how WRC rally cars can drive so easily on snow at speed. It's due to their studded tyres of course.

And now you too can have them.

    Materials needed
    • Space saver wheels X 4
    • Studs
    • A Golf Mk II
    • No brain
    • Too much time on your hands and not enough intelligence

Studs don't help much on a snow.
It's ice where they are useful.
On snow studs doesn't make much difference.

Using such thing on public roads is obviously out of a question, but I've seen few lads driving on such setup (home made studs) on some amateur rallies, and they were doing actually pretty well.
Can't see anything wrong with it if it's done properly, and not used on public roads.

I know lads do this with bike tyres and it works well.
Having an inner tube is the key here though. No air leaks.

I did the same for a mountain bike in the snow and it worked wonders. You definitely need an inner tube though :D

What i really love about this thread is knowing so many people are going to click on it with "you don't need snow tyres in Ireland it doesn't snow" already typed out in their little heads only to have the wind taken out of their sails :D

OK so this is a good idea is it???

Listen, you are drilling screws with sharp ends into your tyres. On the way they will cut through ply and wires if you are even able to judge the distance in ok. You are then left with a weak spot and if too much pressure is applied, it won't be much given the tyre is now structurally weakened, you will get a blow out.

On top of that fitting an inner tube isn't a good idea as it will over heat and burst if fitted to a tubeless tyre and also it will get punctured by the ends of the screws.

This is the work of an idiot.............although i can't wait for the posts in "Today i did something to my car thread"............followed up by our camera guys with a few snaps of the crash in "Here's what I saw today"
