chances of selling a 2010 car privately and getting reasonable money for it?

I have a 2010 Estate Renault Megane (Tom Tom Edition with satnav, cruise, bluetooth, automatic this and that, etc!), 1.5dci, which is kinda surplus to requirement as I don't have long commute to work and don't really need the diesel engine and don't want to have the funds tied over to it any longer.

In the current 2nd hand car climate, is there much chance of being able to sell it privately, considering it still has 4 years guarantee and road side assistance? Or should I just forget about it and keep it? Similar cars are on carzone at around 16k upwards, but I presume realistically it would sell for a bit less. but is there even a market for such cars these days in that kind of price range?

With the general publics fascination with low tax I can't see why you wouldn't match what similar cars are fetching. Relatively new car with all the bells. Put it up online and I'd say you'd shift it. Emphasise low tax. Seems to do it for the masses when buying new motors at the moment.

Estate megane would have not appeal to the masses. I wouldn't fancy your chances atall but then again there is only one way to be sure. Do your maths and offer it at a discount if you really want out ;)

I dont see why not as the last poster said price it keenly and emphasise the tax piece and warranty etc...

    Good luck with the sale.

Renault heavily discounted these cars when new so this has a knock on effect on second hand prices. Carzone prices are mainly dealer asking prices, doesn't mean that is the price they actually fetch. Another thing to factor is that people still feel more comfortable spending that kind of cash at a dealership rather than a private individual. It would have to be alot cheaper to tempt someone.

Remember also your car is 2 years old in a few weeks time so it will have to priced to that effect. To sell it quickly it will need to be priced below the cheapest one online.

There is some great value in private sale out there at the moment.

Not sure why but I reckon a lot of people seem to be afraid to spend money privately on anything other than a cheap knockabout.

At least your car ticks the diesel, low motor tax boxes that most eejits have as 1 and 2 on their checklist so that gives you an advantage.

If you really want it gone just undercut the competition and it will sell. Make sure to do a decent ad/pics too.

Doubt you'll see €12,000 for it privately, as mentioned Renault discounted the Megane fiercely and not many folk are into buying 2 year old family wagons privately. You'll defo get rid of it though.

What did you pay for it? (rhetorical question I don't want an answer :) )
Would asking €7000 less suit you ? (rhetorical again :) )

Bare in mind that, how many people have that kind of cash to spend on a car? Most likely they will be looking for some kind of Finance and however difficult it is to get money at the moment, banks or Credit Unions will not lend that much money to buy privately at the moment, just in case you go off and clear your Credit Cards with it instead. They will want to see Invoices/Quotes . I have seen people request these lately to prove that is what they wanted the money for.
Also, might be no harm in stating that no Finance is owed on your Megane in you advertisement. It is another big worry for Private buyers at the moment. I can also tell you that Renault dealers are giving big money for trade-ins at the moment, if you want to downsize;)

Is it a 110 bhp (with 6 speed gearbox) or the 90 bhp with 5 speed gearbox? I see 2011 estates going for 16k straight in dealers, so you won't get anywhere near this - if you can hang onto it you are probably better off doing so
