Using alarm cable as phone line...

Firstly, I know that the wires in phone line cables are generally twisted... and presumably standard 6/8 core alarm cable is not... So, while it's probably not a good thing to do, is it acceptable in the alarm installation world to use standard alarm cable to bring the phone line to the panel (from say a point in the attic?)! There's basically no phone socket near the best panel location and routing one from elsewhere is not an option.

I still haven't got round to putting an alarm in! :o

Yes, alarm cable works perfectly fine. I do it all the time.

Although not ideal it will work. My main concern would be can the alarm system be giving priority over all the other phones in the house from the point your taking it from.

Thanks for the replies folks... Phone line comes into attic of house first and is then run off to different points. There's pretty much 2 alarm cables up there so I can use one of these to route the phone line to the point where the alarm cables are run and the panel will be. Done!

Thanks for letting us know. The main line will go into the dialer then back out to the point you brought it from to give the alarm priority over the other phones.
