I've a Dell inspirion 1545, have seen the blue screen of death at least 3 times in the last six weeks. Question is i need a new battery for it but is it worth buying the battery or should i just give in and invest in a new laptop?

BSOD usually indicates a software or hardware problem. I would try using the laptop without battery plugged in and see if the BSODs stop! If not can you tell us the error code of the BSOD, usually 0x111111 folowed by ramdom numbers. If you notice any .sys file mentioned in the BSOD mention it here as well

Instead of buying a new latop, you could just reinstall the OS, should fix your problem. Just make backups of all your stuff !

Should fix, may not and the effort of formatting and backing up! :o :P Would be useful to see whats crashing it, I'm thinking it could be the battery

All manufacturers charge a lot for batteries, at least Dell allow users change the battery, Apple don't  . Yep a dodgy battery can cause BSODs, try remove it, use the computer just plugged in to the wall, see if it works stable

You can easily remove a battery from a Dell by sliding the catch mechanism and releasing the battery, on Macs even the higher end ones this is inbuilt, and trying to install one yourself probably voids Apples warranty also :rolleyes:

I'd be careful about a non-branded part, do you want to post it up here so we can take a look?

If you have your computer set up to save the dump files from the blue screens then this:

    Bluescreenview

will read them and tell you what's the cause. It tells you how to set Computer up to save them aswell.

Windows have a program for doing it aswell but dear god, you'd go insane trying to figure it out.
