Dublin Bus wanted a 30% fare hike, did I just read that right?

I'd say it was a misprint and they actually wanted 50%.

As far as I know, if you buy monthly ticket(s) at the current price, when the new price comes in, your ticket(s) are valid for another 12 months, so you could get a few!

Better than that mdw....check the small "Valid to" date on the face of the card...AFAIK some of the current issue are valid until early 2014 so get smart :D

im gonna have to buy a 30 day rambler before January to stop being hit hard

The card costs €5 and you then have to put a minimum of €5 credit on it. All the details are on the Leapcard website, which is now finally up.

There are now discounts for those using Leap Card.

A bit unfair/useless for those of us living one station outside the so-called "Short Hop" zone (i.e. Kilcock).

Unfortunate, but I suppose there has to be a cut-off point somewhere. It is like people being pulled for speeding when they are going one mile per hour faster than the limit. They are still over it. Anyway, if Leap goes well, I am sure they will bring in variations to cover longer distances. Maybe get a Leap Card and then cycle or drive or get lifts to the next station and use it from there.

I have already signed up for & received the 2012 Annual Dublin Bus & Luas, taxsaver ticket.

Does that mean I'm immune until end of 2012 on the new DB & Luas hikes?

Or can they bring in the higher charge mid-year for annual ticket holders?

You're immune. Ticket is a ticket for full valid period once it is purchased.

I'd estimate that it's going to be €120/€125 for the 30 day rambler, and €22 for the Travel 90 (they have some obsession with keeping the price above 10 times the 7-13 fare and encouraging more people to use cash)

some serious savings to be made if you can stock up now
