    Hi,

Can anyone advise of the best / easiest way to Root a HTC Desire. I had it done previously but had to restore to factory settings as it froze and had to be returned to HTC for repair. I didn't root it myself a friend did it but they have since emigrated so just wondering what is the best way to do this? I had superuser and Launcher Pro on it before and would like to get these back on it if possible.

    Thanks

If it's an old amoled desire, see my post here, if it's a newer SCLD screen, my method won't work.

This is an old method. I'm sure they have newer tools, it's there if you need a fallback.

    Try this.

Not sure what HBOOT version you are though.

I recently had to do the same, so here's what I did.

To unroot, I used unrevoked, it's completely painless.

I was feeling a bit more confident this time around, so I also s-off'ed (using revolutionary) and installed the oxygen hboot (from alpharev). It's pretty handy so far, I've had no trouble with the phone and it performs better than when I used ext partitions previously. It's also funny, as HTC still haven't collected my phone, but to be honest, the problems have all disappeared, so I'm not to worried about it now.

Edit: Don't s-off unless you're completely confident, and sure what you are doing. It is very possible to permanently brick your phone when doing it, so unless you feel the irresistible urge to, I wouldn't.

How do I check the HBOOT Version? The hold volume down and turn it on method?

Ok so my hboot version is 0.93 I downloaded unrevoked and it tells me to plug phone in and enable USB debugging. Which I did but nothing happened any ideas? it just says waiting for device?

Do you have the drivers installed? I think on the page you get unrevoked from, it says something like for windows you have to get extra drivers. Should be a link to it on the unrevoked page
