I am bringing in a 2000 hi ace van from the uk that belongs to a brother of mine that lives there, the van originally was registered in Ireland when he bought it here new and then he had to reregister in the UK.Can this go back to the old ireland reg or has everything to be redone and does it need to be weighed for the DOE?.

yeah, you'll have to re-do all the paperwork with a new reg I'd say, but the good news is you'll not have to pay the €200 vrt fee.

Not sure on the exact procedure, but there's no new reg or VRT fee, you get the old plates back. Shouldn't have to weigh it again either, contact the NCT and see what the story is

You'll have to get a DOE and they don't do them at NCT Centres. All the vans I have imported have to be weighed and the slip taken to the place doing the DOE. Also you have to go to the gard station and declare it is for business use, and that means tax clearance certs or comercial vehicle insurance.

As for getting it registered look at ncts.ie for further info - only 22 NCT Centres do the reg work on behalf of the Revenue Commissioners.

It shouldn't have to be weighed since that was all done before. He will probably have to DOE it, then sort out the registration side of it. He only asked about registering it but yes it has to be declared for business use and all that too. If you don'y have a VAT number for this you can use your PRSI number

Yea,i suppose the main question was, seeing as it was registered here when bought(albeit for a week or so),could it help the €200 with reregistering it or maybe absolving me of the reg fee.Its all a lot of running around with NCT station, weighbridge station, doe, and then the usual verbal jousting with the tax office about my company not registered for VAT and me explaining i dont need to be registered for VAT up to 37500k and then she grudgingly giving it to me as if it was going to spoil her christmas so any imformation is gladly accepted cause i guarantee at least two of these will say that i need something else that is trivial and irrelevant and there is none of these places thats within 20 miles of me.
