Often on a moonlit night when I take the dogs out for that last pee of the day, we hear the sound of hounds howling. They use the fields around us in winter.
    A mournful evocative sound...

On the way back from market a while ago, in the lanes near the house, I rounded a bend, and there they were, a large group all on leads, with a round wee Irishman and what I described as a hairy whippet loose leading the way ( I know; a lurcher) Of course I stopped and met them; a dozen Harrier Hounds, so well cared for and so sociable. After asking permission I opened the car door and was thoroughly sniffed and licked.

Made my day so now when I hear the howling in the night I smile. Beautiful dogs.
