    hi guys,

im having a bit of an issue at the moment. the missus works for a canadian phone company over here, and they've got a range of budget self branded androids that they're just after launching. picked up one to have a play with it, with the intention of keeping it if i can get tethering working.

there's no root solution that i could find for it, since it's essentially no name (it's a cdma umx mxe 670 running 2.3.4), but i have managed to force it to run as an internet sharing device via a usb connection

now, my problem is that i can't get it to view regular http pages. https, ftp and just about every other protocol are fine, it's the http that's the issue. it's not really a game ender, since i can still use google, video cached google results by inserting https at the beginning of the address, and get my email etc, but i'd obviously prefer if i could access all pages

since the phone itself has no issue with http, im wondering how exactly this would work. is it somehow blocking port 80 for the laptop running through it, but not for itself? or is there another port that android handsets use for browsing?

the https everywhere plugin is making things a little bit easier, but obviously the majority of the web doesnt offer a https connection

any ideas/workarounds here that might get me past this, at least until someone a lot smarter than me comes up with a rooting solution (which probably wont be any time soon given that they're a relatively small company)?

    cheers!
