My boyfriend recently bought a 99 Golf that still has the original cassette deck! I'd like to get him a cd player that he can connect his iphone to (Just for the music not the phone part!)

I've no clue about these things but can I just buy any CD player from Halfords or Argos and it will work or is there different connections I need?:confused:

Could someone recommend something? I'd spend between €100-€130
    Thanks

Yes there should be loads on offer gor that price, look for those with an input jack on the front. You should also look in Argos, usually decent offers. If it was me I would look for one with blue baklight so that it fits in with the dashboard lighting. It's easy to fit yourself or Halfords would fit it.

I recently got one of these:

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300604848672&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:IE:1123

Works great and is handy for charging too.

direct control of ipod/phone from the headunithttp://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_11101_catalogId_15551_productId_808773_langId_-1_categoryId_212600

aux in. you will have to select and change the song on the ipod/phone

you wont need any wiring adaptors or facia adaptors for the mk4 golf. they will fit straight in. imo sony are the best looking stereo to fit in a golf. the red/blue lights on them match the golf cabin lighting very well

extra cables may be needed to connect the ipod to the stereo. the first one should use the cable that came with the ipod to connect to your pc. the second will need a 3.5 mm to 3.5mm audio cable. basicly a cable with a headphone connection on each end.

Thanks so much! Love the look of the 1st one, it sounds great! When I go to reserve it on the Halfords it says I need a Harness adapter too?:confused::confused:

Maybe I'm picking the wrong model of car! It's a Christmas present so I don't wanna be missing something vital, but I don't wanna pay for something I don't need!

the standard stereo on the mk4 golf uses iso connections as do all sony stereos i have ever seen. it should plug into the golf no problem. the red and yellow wires on the stereo wiring harness may need to be swapped over to keep memory for the radio stations but that will be explained in the manual of the stereo.

i dont know why halfords is showing that you need an adaptor
