No Satelite Signal Being Received

Noticed earlier on tonight that there's no signal being received on my Sky+HD box. I know it's windy out, I've never had issues with the dish in bad weather. I rang Sky and they went through various steps and said to wait until the morning to see if the problem is resolved, if not they'll do something else.
My dad was installing a new socket earlier and would have turned the power off, could this have done something to the box?
Hopefully it'll be back in the morning otherwise I'll probably be without Sky all weekend :(

probably wind has knocked it out of alignment.

do you get any readings from signal status?

    Services,0,4 select. ?

Had 2 or 3 people ring me with same problem yesterday all which were rectified by unplugging the box for a couple of mins and then turning it back on...seriously bad weather out there yeserday.

I had this happen on Wednesday it started off light and got worse to the point of being unwatchable. Luckily I was able to watch my recordings.

Thursday I got no signal on constantly. Called sky and was told to do a forced update. After that not only did it not resolve the issue all my recordings disapeared and so did the EPG and everything in anytime.

I left it for a while came back to the box and the EPG, recordings and any time were back but still no signal. I'm able to watch recordings and anytime but after a while they disapear, I have to put the box into standby and leave it then they come back.

I don't know if it's the box or the dish is out of alignment. It was windy here but no worse than ever and I've had no problems before, even last years snow.

The dish has been up for 8 years so maybe it's been pushed out slowly.

Sky are sending someone over on Saturday. If its just a dish realignment I'll be paying €100 for the privalige.

Maybe I should give an independent a ring, might save me some money and another day with out Telly? I don't really know any that service Laois though.

Just rebooted the box and again it comes up with nothing, not even an EPG on the screen.

The signal bars are blank. Looks like I'm ringing Sky again :(

Just off the phone to them and they said I'd have to organise an engineer myself. Is this right? I thought they could arrange it for me?

    That's odd.

Called them yesterday and had a visit arranged by the person I spoke to.

I had this problem after installing a new socket in my house - I don't think it had anything to do with the power - but i think cables were tugged around. I was getting no signal at all, or only one poor signal (see Services, 4, 6)

Sky had told me to have an engineer come out at a whopping 100€ - and I was about to do it, but on impulse I disconnected and reconnected the two screw in cables at the back - and voila, better signal.

Any time I get no signal now, I disconnect and reconnect/swap these - making sure the little metal prong is sticking out as far as it can. Sometimes it has taken 4 or 5 attempts, checking the signal each time (services, 4, 6) but it has worked 100% of the time.

It might work for you too.

ETA: I have a normal sky + box, not a HD one, so perhaps it is different

Have an engineer arranged for Tuesday, the first agent is obviously dumb and didn't know she could order an engineer for Ireland.

I'll have a fiddle again with the cables and see if it helps.

You (or someone) should just remake the connections properly & be done with it.

I've got nothing after a system reboot, not EPG, anytime or my recorded programmes. Is it worth doing a system reset?

I know that it will wipe all my recordings, or will a realignment bring everything back?

Why can't I access the planner with no signal? I thought the recordings are stored on the HDD?

Had this same problem last night, and luckily I also have an analog UPC connection, but I went to check it again this evening and it's still the same. No signal... so I went outside to see it if the dish looked different to next-doors, and here's the LNB hanging down by the cables.

Anyone know if Sky would be able to arrange someone or am I better off getting someone myself.

Sky will definitely be able to arrange a call out for €100.

Had the engineer visit and all he had to do was tighten a few bolts as the dish had come loose.

I can't believe I'm being charged €100 for this, called Sky but they can't do anything. Was told I can write in a complaint.

Best bet is to check the bolts etc. yourself first (if you're able to) before calling anyone out especially with all the windy weather we're having.

BTW-there's 2 severe storms forecast for next week.So folks get the spanners out and get tightening.

I wanted to but was unable to. I was hoping my father in law would help as he has a tall enough ladder and some knowledge, but alas he was helping his daughter paint so...:( €100

Tried some online sites today and checked out some guys on adverts.ie too, but all to no avail.
Then on the way into town at about 2.15, I spotted a Sky van on the footpath in dorset street parked outside Sat world.(just down from Mater private). So I call in on the way home at 2.45 and tell him what I'm looking to have done. After 3 phone calls to different installers, he says he can have someone up to me in about an hour.
Forty minutes later, there is a guy on the roof changing the LNB and the job is done in less than 10 minutes. €50 is all he charged me, which I think is a bargain considering it was done in an hour.

Couldn't recommend them enough if you need a job done and at a good price too. :D

    Gents,

I knew nothing about putting up a satellite dish, aligning it and wiring my house up for Freesat tv until I sat down and educated myself via Google two years ago. Since then, I've put up about a dozen dishes for various people and re-aligned lots more, giving people far better reception than what the ubiqitous Sky installers did in their "rush to the next job" (these guys actually get a pittance from Sky and its all in the number of jobs they do so they're in a hurry).

It really is quite simple to align a dish and you'll kick yourself later knowing how you p1ssed money away to Sky or their installers for a pretty simple job. Saying that, I wouldn't get up on a roof and I only tackle dishes that are fixed to the side of a house.

Cancelled the callout from Sky today after finding someone on Adverts who did it for less than half the price. It pays to look around :)
