STI Clinic or Doctor?

I am slightly worried I might have some sort of infection. I am a male, early twenties. A couple of days ago I received oral sex from a guy I know for a while. He says he doesn't have any STI's and I trust him.

However, since then I seem to have a couple of red marks on my penis and a tingling sensation a lot of the time, like I have to urinate.

I know this forum isn't for medical advice but would I be best to go to a doctor or an STI clinic? I feel its probably some sort of yeast infection or something and I'm not sure if the STI clinic would identify that. And are doctors able to check for STI's anyways?

Also, if I do go to an STI clinic, does it have to be the gay clinic? I am in the closet and if going into an STI clinic isnt bad enough, I'd prefer if it was one for the general public.

    Any advice is appreciated.

You're right OP, this forum isn't for medical advice. But as for general information, all doctors can be the screening point for STI's, as far as I know. However, they will charge, and a full STI screening can be pricey.

Since you want a clinic that's open to the general public (as opposed to the Gay Mens Health Project), the main one in Dublin is in St. James' Hospital (http://www.stjames.ie/Departments/DepartmentsA-Z/G/GenitoUrinaryMedicineandInfectiousDiseases/DepartmentOverview/)

Not too sure where you're located, but googling "STI clinics" in your area should help.

Thanks. Do you have any idea of the price of one of these tests?

I'm pretty confident that guy I was with doesnt have any infections so thats why I was leaning towards going to a doctor. Would an STI clinic be able to diagnose any issues if its not an STI? Or do they just tell you if its an STI or not.

    Thanks again.

I don't know about St. James', but when you go to the GMHS free clinic you see a doctor. It doesn't have to be one of the well known STIs for them to deal with it.

I think you should probably stop worrying about not being out and go to the GMHS. You'll get your hepatitis vaccinations, you'll only be there for two hours (unlike St. James') and it's not like they use your surname when they call your name. Most people there are just minding their own business.
