Dehumidifiers

The windows in my car are always foggingup so I'm thinking about either buying or renting a dehumidifier.

    A few questions:

    1. Besides closing all the heater vents, how else can I maximise the efficency of it?

    2. It will obviously have to be plugged in and the lead fed out of the car somehow. What's the best way of doing it so it doesn't suck in outside air?

    3. Would the effects of using one not be negated straight away once I have the heat on in the car afterwards?

My windows never get fogged up. I always leave the fan on low and they're fine. The very odd time I might hae to give a blast of the AC on a particularly pissy day.

Can't understand why people get in to the car, put heat on full blast, wipe windows with greasy hand, turn off fan / heat, let windows fog up again and repeat.

EDIT: sorry, your in a soft top right?

I never rub the windows with cloths, my hand, sponges or anything like that. I always let the fan do it. I HATE streaky windows.

I always have the fan on at high heat and speed 3. I don't use the actual AC to clear the windows as I find when you turn it off, they get worse. I know it's better to use it as it equalises the temperature with outside temps better than the fan at cold but I still don't use it.

Nope, never in my life had a soft top. I have a Mazda6 ;) We've had this conversation before haha

Is there water leaking in to yor cas somewhere?
Is your air recirculation button on?
Have you ever changed cabin filter?
    What car is it?

    Ok I see it's Mazda6. I'm typing too slow

I'm confusing you with the lad who got the S2000.:D

I don't see the need to have the heat on high unless it's really cold out. I.e. heat at an ambient temp, around 21', and fan constantly on about 25% should keep it clear under normal circumstances. If the interior of the car is constantly going from hot to cold that in itself would cause condensation. Although, if you continuously have this problem there could well be dampness inside the car.

Ignoring the reason why your car is so damp.

If you already have A/C then you have a dehumidifier. You want full heat, all doors and windows closed. Hotter air holds a larger table of water which increases the efficiency of the dehumidifier as well as drying out the water at a increased rate.

No, I always have it taking in air from outside. I only use the re-circ button during the summer when I use the AC.

Cabin filter could do with a change. I'm looking into whether or not an Aldehyde filter from an RX8 will fit.

    Yup, that's Jimmy Bottlehead ;)

Yeah I think I made a mistake with this whole idea. The windows fog up once I park up and leave the car.

Really? I never knew that, cheers! Is it possible to have hot air while using the air con?

Unfortunately not(for it to dehumidify), but leaving it at a room temperature or just below would have a effect over a extended period.

Taking old filter out to compare is 30 sec job. Open glove box, squeeze sides, it comes out, take out the filter.

You could get one of those dehumidifier packs in Lidl with the gel in them. Pop it out of sight under the drivers seat, and change it every 3 months.

No power lead, no space taken up, low cost, and rarely have foggy windows (unless I get in soaked from the rain or the car springs a leak!).

I've done it before in my last car which was an RX8 but I don't have one to compare it with.

There lies your problem IMO. If your blasting hot air instead of an ambient temp the windows are bound to fog up once you turn off the car and the glass temp begins to change.
