Best way to store spare wheels / tyres?

So I have a spare wheelset with tyres mounted, currently in black plastic ( to keep the light of the rubber) lying flat under the bed. This means that the axle is carrying the weight of the wheel and I'm wondering is there a correct way to store something like this?

All mine hang from hooks in the garage (I know, not much use if you don't have a garage!)

Leaning against the Wall under the stairs. Nothing else in there so no harm should come to them.

Garage isn't heated (except when I'm on the turbo;))

Is there any reason it needs to be?

I make sure mine are stored in my garage with a temp of no less than 18 degrees at all times.

They're wheels. Just stick 'em wherever.

I cant believe I am replying to this thread....I know we all love our bikes and wheels, but Jeeeesussssss come on! Just stand them up or hang em from a nail..for gods sake, what are you worried about. Unless your leaving them there for years nothing will happen. If your really worried take the tyres off em.
Apologies if I appear rude, but come oonnnnnn!

    Rant over

Well, in this case I am. One set has my winter tyres mounted. Just got them this autumn so we're pretty much guaranteed no snow for the next 5 years and they'll spend this time under the bed with tyres mounted for speed of access 'just in case'...
