Another storage heater question - PLEASE HELP!

    Hi folks,

Firstly, apologies if this is retreading old ground, but I've spent a week Googling 'storage heaters' and can't find the answer to my question without being pointed to manuals that I don't understand!

Basically, I moved into an apartment last week that works off storage heaters. Having done extensive research, I reckon I've got a fair idea of how they work: i.e. leave input on full overnight, output on lowest setting, it charges overnight and gradually adjust output throughout day to release heat. That's all fine.

    What I'm having trouble understanding:

    1) The devireg setting in the fusebox is causing me untold levels of stress. I do not really understand how it works, or what setting it should be on. When we moved in, the 'day' setting was set to -2 (light beside it was red) and the 'night' setting was set to 0. Having read up over the past few days, it seemed as if most people had their 'day' setting on 0, so I changed it to 0 (thinking that the previous tenants had set it back to a colder setting because of the recent mild weather) and it went green. Fine.

The problem is that my heater (in the living room) doesn't seem to be emitting much heat during the day - regardless of how much I open the 'output' setting - and I'm wondering if I need to adjust the 'night' devireg setting to +2, so it takes in a longer charge at night?

    2) Also, the front panel of my heater actually never feels as warm as it should be - all of the air seems to be coming out of the top of it, never the front. Does this indicate a problem with the actual heater unit?

I hear the boiler gurgling throughout the day and night at various points, but I don't think I've ever heard the heating come on. Yet there is heat in the heater - although I think there's not as much as there should be - coming out of the heater during the day, so it is charging at night.

Sorry for the long post, but any help would be VERY much appreciated - as I've said, hours of Googling this problem haven't made me any the wiser. I'm already worried about being stung by a massive heating bill in a couple of months because I've got the basic devireg or input settings wrong and I'm at my wit's end! :(
