Contractor v's employee query

    Hi,

    I've a query regarding the carer who looks after an elderly relative.

    Is a carer considered an employee or a contractor, this carer also has a number of other jobs caring for other elderly people is paid an agreed amount, her hours are flexible and often when is unavailable to do the work sources another carer/friend to look after my relative and pays that carer/fried herself.

    my concern is who is liable for income tax on payments made to the carer.

    Revenue have some guidance sheets on this - i.e. how they assess the difference between employee and independent contractor. They are quite helpful.
