You could use the likes of Tor, but it wouldnt be much good for file downloading, just browsing.

While you're active, it's possible to spy on you on an open (unencrypted) Wi-Fi network so the advice is to always use the format 'https://xxx.xxx.xxx' websites when entering sensitive personal data like your credit card number, or accessing your bank a/c on an open Wi-Fi network, the 's' following 'http' ensures that all the traffic is encrypted. This would apply when you're in places like coffee shops and libraries where there is free and open Wi-Fi.

Is your home Wi-Fi encrypted with WEP or WPA encryption? If it is then you're probably ok, I don't think the available spy programs can handle encryption.

I think the likes of aircrack-ng can, but your average parent would never have heard of it, never mind know how to use it. There are alternatives in that case too like a MITM attack or ARP poisoning or DNS spoofing etc. Again though, not tools that a parent is going to consider unless they're a network freak.

How do you know what type your wifi is? Like for UPC or eircom? Where do you find out if it's wpa ect.

While technically possible, it is very unlikely. Unless your dad is a secret agent and your mom was a super elite hacker working for the russians before glasnost.

Don't let them install any software on your pad. Or be suspicious of it anyway.

The wireless router you connect to may keep logs of which domains are visited by which of the coonected clients.

    Example from the Netgear here:

If your parents are very techie then maybe. But the liklihood is that no, no they aren't spying on you.

So My parents aren't that 'Computer smart' So I'm good. Even If they did spy on me would deleting the history help much?

As a matter of general housekeping (rather than paranoia), the Ccleaner utility will clean up cache files, cookies and history. Use the free version....

I suppose your parents could be monitoring your internet useage using something like Norton or OpenDNS family settings, having said that you say your parents arn't very computer literate so this is unlikely!

If they had WireShark it would be showing all the sites your using, just set the capture to HTTP.
