I'm being plauged by magpies and need to buy a trap. I got a loan of one like this from a friend of mine: http://www.thehuntinglife.com/html/sections/articles/various/larsen-trap.html

It worked brilliantly, I only had it a week and lost count of how many magpies I caught. Unfortunately he needs it himself. I don't really have time to try make one and some that I looked at on the Internet, I can't make out if their good or bad.

I would appreciate if somebody would point me in the right direction of a decent one or if anybody makes them feel free to shoot me a pm.

I never noticed the sale section, nice one. The ladder trap looks the part but might be a bit too extravagant for me. :D

For magpies you can't beat the double entry larsen trap. The ladder trap is better put to use on rooks and greybacks in my opinion.
OP check done deal should get one there or else try this: http://shop.maceoinltd.com/maceoinltd/product_info.php?cPath=56&products_id=581

If you are going to buy one try to buy one made from weldmesh rather than a timber framed one.
The weldmesh will last forever. My first one is over 14years old and still trapping well.

Yeah - my former boss had one like that, he got it years ago and was still going strong nearly 20 years later.

Same as with making them, forget wood and chicken wire, use weldmesh, lighter, stronger, easier to move, won't rot or tear.

Cheers lads, I'll be picking up a mesh one now. One more quick question, some have a top entry, others a side entry is there a preference for either or does it not matter?

Side entry I think is supposed to be more effective for crows maybe someone can confirm. I have always used top entry and catch both magpies and greybacks equally well. I would stick with the top entry if I were you.
