MultiLNB Questions

I have decided to undertake a little project over christmas to get more tv channels

i currently have one 60cm dish pointing at 28.2E and getting perfect signal, after doing some research i have decided i want to add two more lnbs to my dish and hopefully point at 19.2E and Hotbird. I am new to this and need some advice

i have purchased this 3 lnb holder off ebay( http://www.techsat.co.uk/ebay/3lnb-example.jpg)

i am in country area of limerick and have nothing blocking sight like trees etc however the position of my dish is in an awkward area in that i cannot move it left as it hits off the roof, i just wondered is it possible to get these 2 extra sat's on a 60cm dish? and also should i be wary of how to position the lnbs?

i would like to keep astra 28.2 of course also

    Thanks in advance

You need at least an 80cm dish, ideally 90cm. I'm in Limerick
    134102.png

    28E, 19E, 13E and 9E on one dish.
28E is the one on its own to the left.

As you move LNB off centre to get a different satellite the gain drops.

A 60cm is almost marginal on the main axis in Limerick rain.

I can show you a MultiLNB holder for up to 22 degree arc. I may have a spare of the one in the photo. The one you ordered only allows small spacing.

I don't sell or install. But I have stuff lying around.

i see so i definatly wont be able to do anything with my current setup? how much would you be willing to let the spare holder go for?

also is 19E in the centre of your setup? thanks for responding

My dish is actually pointed at 16E.
But indeed could be pointing at 19E.
Use the Private message feature. Left click on my Name and "send Private message".
Normally people are blocked from me but I added you to list.

You can "experiment" but you'll achieve nothing reliable in Drizzle or Rain. Also the accuracy of LNB placement is critical.

They must sit on an angled curve at correct spacing so that Elevation and Azimuth is better than 0.5 degree error and Skew better than 10 degrees error.

You need a meter or a LOT of patience.

As Watty said, a 60cm dish is way 2 small for use with a multi lnb setup. I myself use a Triax 1.2metre pointed at 9,13,19 and 4.8 degrees and have a sky minidish pointed to 28 for sky.

Would highly recommend any Triax TD range of dishes for your new system.

Didn't know Triax made a 1.2m dish, where did you get that? I would be interested to see how it performs,

Oh, was hoping a new dish had arrived, dishes that size are usually expensive.

This lnb holder works perfectly with triax dishes. You just need to buy a second one.

The triax dish comes with a holder for one lnb. So put your prime focus lnb on this. (In my case 16degs). Then attach your lnb holders, They can over lap, gives more rigidity. When you purchase two of these holders you can set 6 lnbs on the holders. When you over lap them ensure they are roughly 1ft or more in length, with 2/3 s on 28deg side...(at full width they (2) are about 4 inchs longer than triax multibloc)

I have tried these and they are surprising sturdy and easy to setup for the price.

Yes, I have installed a few of them, quality materials and performance, really irritating elevation slide adjustment though

Until you try using twin or quad lnbs, then it needs to be turned upside down.

The reason the Triax bar only does 22 degrees is that the signal level drops off fast. Using a longer system is often pointless without a 1.4m dish. So for more than 22 degrees spread a Toroidal dish is better, like Wavefrontier T90 (the smaller one is pointless).

If the very end satellite is very strong (i.e. 28.2E in Ireland) and you have 90cm dish, then yes, you can offset more than 11 degree from centre. I moved the entire bar so that the middle is 16E rather than 19E to make the signal stronger at 13E and 9E as with the 90cm I could afford to lose a little. In practice it makes a few transponders on Eurobird weaker than I would like, but less far west that is less of a problem.

    Still no PM "video"?

Good luck with your purchase. Great Dish and a good price. Do not forget the diseqc switch. 4 or 8 way. (8 allows for expansion)
For starters can I recommend you pointing Dish at 16degs and using your lnb holder to hold 19 and 13 each side. Leave your 60cm dish in position for 28degs east and connect all lnbs to 4 or 8 way switch. If you are short an lnb i see one from your ebay seller for €5. You can get an 8 way switch for a tenner on ebay incl delivery...

dish arrived yesterday but wont have any time off till thursday from work so ill give a go of setting this stuff up then :D

in the meantime what do i need to know about the elevation and stuff for alignment?

Once you decide on what satellite you want as your central lnb position, you can use this site to find out the elevation, azimuth & lnb skew for this sat. position at your location.

The picture linked to in post #1 gives a good idea of how the offset lnbs will be arranged. Are you using this particular bracket? Apart from the tilt & sideways adjustment you should be able to slide the lnbs back & forwards in the collars & maybe even bend the bracket to alter the curve & see if that has any effect on signal.

ok im working on it right now but i wana test it on the ground first because mounting a 90cm is a bit of a task and im on my own at home today. just put together the dish itself anyway.. gona just test to see if i can pick up 19E in about an hour... weather conditions are bad today though very cloudy

i have a sat meter and i got the dishpointer app for my iphone so hopefully it will be easy enough :P

will i be able to pick up 19E on the single lnb without any problems even in this weather?:D

    Hi Video,

    I'm trying to point a Fracarro Penta85 + 3 LNBs to 13, 19 and 28, from the ground (I'm in South Dublin).
The dish is aligned on Astra1/19.
    I can successfully receive hotbird (13) and astra1 (19), but I can't get anything for Astra2/28...

So, I'm curious to see how it goes for you ;)
    Good luck!

Edit: I can receive good signal from 19E, even with that weather.

ill let you know how it goes willy ... 4hours in now and just latched onto first sat not sure what it is now.. reason it took so long is because i couldnt find a long enough cable to get to the lnb on the tripod haha :D still im glad im getting somewhere anyway , if i get sucessfully on 19E i might try to add another lnb later today or sometime next week when im off from work

this is getting exciting i must admit haha

finally got 19e locked in :D currently enjoying eurosport, giving up now for the night.. will try on christmas eve if i have time and ill add another lnb :D good times

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,351 ✭✭✭Ronnie Raygun

You can try aiming the lnb "freehand" at the dish, without the multi bracket; will let you pinpoint the absolute best position & see if the bracket even lets you get close (might need some modding to suit your dish).

what sats are the best for english free to air stuff? i would also be interested in buying a annual subscription card if the right price was found.. what are you guys doin?

    happy xmas btw :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,351 ✭✭✭Ronnie Raygun

Most English FTA stuff is on satellites broadcasting primarily to the Middle East/North Africa (MENA), such as Badr 4 @ 26 degrees east & Atlantic Bird 7 @ 7 degrees west. You'd need a bigger dish though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 635 ✭✭✭Video

really ?a bigger dish just to pull in that one sat with a clear view of the sky? :(

ive been looking up the sats and would like to get these 26E 13E 19E 16E

will that be possible with my multi lnb holder? i might mod one to get best results if i can :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,351 ✭✭✭Ronnie Raygun

13 & 19 are easy, 16 has improved a lot recently due to a new satellite being stationed there. 26 is weak over Ireland but some users here seem happy with the reception they get on a 1.1m dish.

There are a no. of fairly tedious threads on the subject here & in the regular satellite forum (probably not helped by some of my own contributions tbh); search for a user called tc.

Premiership football that is way cheaper to get than Sky for a start. I have an Al Jazeera card and a Cyfra card and get huge amount of football for a lot cheaper

Depends on what channels you want, the length of subscription period etc. Maybe €150 for the Canal+ channels for 13 months.

If you read back through threads from the start of the Premiership season, you'll get a better idea of the different options available.

No English audio on the sports channels (at least for the EPL and La Liga matches anyway). You do get English audio on the movies and US tv series. Great value card if you like football. At least 4 EPL games every week and live Barca and Real games every week - all in HD.

I have an Al Jazeera card also. Plenty of English audio there but sadly no HD.

€100 is hardly a lot for Al Jazeera for 12 months considering the range of football they show.

I can see your point, but when you realise what amount of sport (Mainly football) they show, 100€ is a drop in the ocean compared to a lot of broadcasters. Pair this with a Cyfra+ card and youve got a lot of angles covered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 635 ✭✭✭Video

will more than likely get both cards.. problem is i like to have my dishes hooked up to my pc thru a dvb-s card, is it possible to get a CAM and card to work with these? :/ i have a TBS Dual Tuner and several other technisat pci cards

Also im getting frustrated with astra 19E... i was recording a movie on zdf hd and it had the option for original audio but its still in freekin german :(
