Just a wee thread to see who you all think the next few up and coming fighters are that are currently amateur (from Ireland and Northern Ireland of course). I personally do not know but I think IFS will have some as they are on fire at the minute.

Is there anyone who stands out from your club? I know that the boxing clinic is up there with Ireland's best gyms

Prefer not to name any as I have great time for all my lads. We are only a new club but we have some of the best amateurs in the country(as our record of only 1 loss this year proves) with more coming through.
There are a lot of great amateur lads out there at the mo

ryan curtis from primal has been very impressive the few times i've seen him , another guy is point blank's bobby huxford and looks to have a great future ahead of him, anesh bugwandeen was also an exciting lookin fighter but not sure whether he fights anymore as i havent noticed him since ipmma finished up and that the kyuzo team seem to be concentrating on bjj over mma . a fight on a show in kilkenny a few weeks ago had two of the very best younger lads i've seen in mihai fosco and shane smith too.
all the younger lads seem to have a much broader all round game too compared to even 18 months or so ago

The lads from Primal are definitely great up and coming fighters, Ryan Curtis, Ian Cleary, Dave Hanney, Ray Smith... All going to impress even more next year.

From SBG there's Keith Coady, James Heelan (thought he's fighting Pro now), Tommy Martin, Luke Corcoran.

Peter Quelly and Alan Corcoran impressed me at Cage Contender, as did Stephen Coll (but I think he's pro).

    James Higgins
    Cormac Copeland (Both FAI)
    Ryan Curtis (Primal)
    Blaine Odriscoll (Lucan)
Heelan is pro now I think but is gonna be one to watch
Darragh Harte(outta rush) is definitely the exciting amature to watch anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 485 ✭✭theboxingclinic

    Heelan is not pro

Yeah I didn't think so but I just checked and I had wrongly read the card from last week's Kerry show.

So much talent comming through the Amateur ranks -

My top pick is from Evolve - Gavin Kelly.

Other guys doing well and working hard -

FAI - Karl Moore & Pat McAlistair (Pro now or at least going pro but were still doing Amateur during most of 2011 and where impressive)

IFS - Stephen Owens - (Paid his dues and works real hard), theres alot of guys coming up through but from my view they need to keep at it, although cant be too hard on them as they have an impressive collective record from we strarted.

    Sudden Impact - James McBride

    Legends - Oisin Coburn

    Lucan - Blaine O'Driscoll

    Chum Sut - Kev McFall

Tai Jutsu mma - Joe McColgan

    DFC - Stephen Moore

    Boxing Clinic - Sean Tobin

    Rush - Daragh Hart

    kokoro - Alan corcoran

    SBG - Sexual Heelan

These are just off the top of my head and I know theres alot more I am forgetting to mention but the talent coming through imo has been very good in 2011 comparing to the standard of fights we have seen outside Ireland.

Alot of people here think the standard is higher in the UK and in my personal opinion its just as good if not better.

Irish MMA is on the up guys! Well done to all fighters, clubs and coaches.

Once we took a 6 month break from MMA Anesh moved to Primal MMA. He's fought for them once winning by decision.

Kyuzo is primarily a grappling club but you'll be seeing Kyuzo MMA fighters very soon.

Dara Harte was training 10 months and was 6-1 Mma and the 1 he lost he took on 2 days notice and was puking before his match, eat something bogey.
Won the Bjj Irish open and won 2-3 novice boxing matches, some clubs get in early others wait forever, It all depends on the individual with us.

He's been out of training 6 months and is away but will return in 6 months time when he's home.

Was it Adam Caffrey, he's 6-0 old c class and 1-1 new, lost when he fought a weight class up, was just not strong enough but was close fight. He's not fighting till after his leaving cert

That's him and his ridiculis hat! a talented kid and good in all ranges-the new type of fighter that is coming from Ireland-true Mma fighters that can take the fight anywhere.

From Lucan we have a lot of good up and coming youngsters, nobody works harder than Blaine O'Driscoll in training, he's an amateur who trains like a pro, in between working a job! Dont know how he does it. Ellis Dolan is a very good prospect, with more experience he will be very good. Look out for Islam Bisayev who made his debut at The Fight Before Christmas, very classy fighter

6 fights in 18 months of training is crazy. ive been doing mma for year and there is no sign of a fight in the new future nor anyone from my gym who started the same time as me. We are talking at least 18 months before you get a fight

on average how long would it take to get a fight in your club training at least 6 hours a week? As i said previously there in the club I go to (Chum Sut) you are talking at least 18 months before a fight

It's all about the individual, their natural talent plus the time they put in. To some people things come easy, there is no real set time before you are ready for a fight in my opinion but that is what you coach is for (telling you when your ready).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 485 ✭✭theboxingclinic

thats actually a crazy statement, my club isint even open 18 months yet, should i have held back all my lads? considering our record the answer is obviously no. its all up to the individual, people are ready at different times. some never

Some people longer than others, but 18 months is excessive to me-amateur is more about learning than winning and you learn more in there than training-I'd say 7-8 months and you'll have had a fight in my club, over a year rarely happens, key is my 6 month lad will fight another clubs similar training time fella-they won't be going in with your club debut lads as that would be unfair.

looks like I need a new club, didn't even realise this was the case as are coach treats everyone the same. extremely disappointed now as i would of done anything for a fight before I moved to Australia. On average i train 4 days a week and would like to think im pretty decent in comparison to others at my club

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 485 ✭✭theboxingclinic

If your in Perth check out the mma clinic, 8000 sq foot and top class coaches
