Thermostat question

Hi, im in rented accomodation using oil heating and a back boiler.
The only thermostat i can see is one in the boiler shed that reads from -15c to 10c and one in a hatch beside the fireplace that has high numbers on it.

I assume the one beside the fireplace is to tell when the pump to turn on to use this for heating. But what is the one in the shed for?

The only control I seem to have over the oil is a timer in the house. should there be a way to control the temp of an oil boiler or is it just on and off for a period of time.

O and what temp should the back boiler be set to come on at to heat the house without needing to have a huge fire on all the time

Thanks for reading and any info

The stat in the boiler shed is a frost stat which will bring the boiler on when its cold normally about 3oC and the backboiler is normally set about 50oC or what best suits you. You can replace the timer with a thermostatic controller that will turn the boiler off when the area reaches temperature.
