This is a very small problem

I have a really good Female friend who has just broken up with her boyfriend. Although they had not gone out very long they had been friends along time and he really messed with her head.
I do wear my heart on my sleeve in this friendship. There is a 10 year+ age gap and I suppose I am more like a brother.
Her Birthday is coming up soon and we would always give each other a present. I struggle each year to come up with ideas and was thinking of sending her Flowers.

Would you find it a bit strange if someone was to give you flowers in a situation like this.

What kind of presents do ye normally give each other?

Its usually been things like a book or a print. I was just going to add the flowers to book I know she had mentioned. It was just that this would be a change from what normally occurs

I dont see the need unless you are trying to impress her... I think the book is a very nice gift already.

No, I think you should just stick with the normal presents you give her each year, something like flowers could be misinterpreted. I know you want to be there for your friend so you're better off just being someone she can talk to if she wants, that's a present you can't buy :)

I agree with the others, stick with the book. There is too much risk of awkwardness... especially if you do have feelings for her.

A male friend sent me flowers once (as an apology for something he mistakenly thought had offended me) and it totally freaked me out. I'd suspected that he had feelings other than friendship and that confirmed it. Made things very awkward between us for quite a while and forced a serious conversation about my lack of romantic feelings for him.

I do have one male friend who has given me flowers without that awkwardness, but in that situation there was absolutely no ulterior motive, the guy is very happily married and gives flowers to lots of his female friends (on his wife's advice and with her blessing)

Flowers would send her the very clear message that you're interested in her - it's really quite an intimate gesture. I'd stick with the usual tbh...

    Thank You all.
Was pretty sure that would be th advice I'd get. As I said there is no ulterior motive.

Well if there is no ulterior motive I think flowers are lovely. They would make me smile! But you'd have to be 100% sure she doesnt have feeling towards you and that she know you dont have feeling towards her.
