Question about claiming tax credits online?

I'm planning on claiming medical and rent tax credits for this year ASAP in January as I had quite a lot of expenditure especially on health this year.

I'm going to apply online but obviously won't have my P60 by then and will be using my last payslip from 2011 to get the info needed. I did this before with a last payslip of the year and it resulted in a miscalculation because there was a different number of weeks in the year or something - how will I know if the payslip is suitable? I get paid fortnightly and my last pay day is December 22. Thanks

Your payslip should say week 26, that will be correct for a normal year. That week 53/27 or month 13 thing only occurs every few years so it would be odd to have it two years in a row. Don't forget to enter your taxable pay rather than your gross pay for the year, as quite a few people enter their gross pay and end up with underpayments by mistake. The week 53 thing and the mix up between gross and taxable pay is the reason Revenue advises people to wait for their P60's.

    Thanks for this.

How do I know what my taxable pay is though? I think my payslip only gives taxable pay for that payslip and not for the year :-(

I never get my P60 till about March which is why I wanted to use the payslip.

If its not on your payslip which is a pain, just ask your payroll section for the figures in January.
