Volkswagon Golf Door Lock Problems

For the last 3 months the front passenger door of my 2008 1.4 Volkwagon Golf is re-locking itself when the car is unlocked. The locking system of the car is controlled from 2 buttons on the car key. When I press the button to unlock the car, I hear an extra click when the front passenger door is re-locking. To unlock the door I have to pull the handle on the inside of the door and press the unlock button on the drivers door maybe 2,3 or 4 times before the door unlocks. There are no problems locking the door. Its just the unlocking of that one door that is causing a problem.

Has anyone come across this issue before?

Hi there. Not familiar with Golfs in particular but central locking is much the same regardless of the make of car. On the two separate occasions that I have had a similar problem, on two different cars, it was the locking actuator that was at fault. In my case, the door kept unlocking, which is worse when you think about it. You will have to remove the door card ( someone else may know the procedure for your car) and get into the back of the actual lock. The actuator is a smallish solenoid/plunger device with wires attached. Sometimes a simple clean and flush out with contact cleaner is all thats needed to put things right. If you want to avoid buying a new one until you are sure, you might be able to swap one from a working lock on your car and see how it goes.
